Sin saberlo, tienes en tu bolsillo un "billete maldito" que forma parte del robo más grande en la historia del país. Así comenzó la pesadilla para miles de colombianos inocentes.

Todo empezó durante un puente festivo de octubre en Valledupar, una ciudad calurosa en el norte del país. Mientras la gente descansaba y se tomaba un tintico en las terrazas, un grupo de ladrones llegó al Banco de la República. Disfrazados de técnicos de aire acondicionado, entraron a la bóveda más segura de la ciudad sin disparar una sola bala.

El calor dentro del sótano era infernal. Durante 14 horas de agonía y sudor, los ladrones usaron equipos de soldadura para derretir la enorme puerta de acero de la bóveda. Cuando por fin lograron abrirla, encontraron montañas de dinero. Se llevaron aproximadamente tres toneladas de billetes en efectivo, lo que equivalía a unos 33 millones de dólares, y escaparon en completo silencio.

Pero el gobierno colombiano hizo una jugada maestra: anuló los números de serie de todos los billetes robados, quitándoles su valor. De la noche a la mañana, los ladrones tenían toneladas de papel inútil y empezaron a gastarlo desesperadamente. Esto desató el pánico nacional, ya que cualquier ciudadano que recibiera uno de estos billetes de buena fe podía ir a prisión.

Al final, la presión fue tanta que los criminales empezaron a cometer errores y las autoridades capturaron a la gran mayoría de la banda. Sin embargo, gran parte de ese inmenso tesoro nunca fue recuperado.
